After all he’s said and done in the past year, Psy has ascended from an entertaining Korean rapper to a contender for TIME’s annually selected Person of the Year for 2012.
On November 27, American-based TIME magazine revealed the pudgy South Korean singer had been included as one of the candidates for its Person of the Year. Among the reasons cited were for his Gangnam Style music video breaking, “all kinds of sound barriers this year” and for logging more than 820 million YouTube views and counting.
Psy stands among a distinguished list of figures in all aspects of life from U.S. president Barack Obama to Nobel Peace Prize laureate Aung San Suu Kyi and more.
Though TIME’s editors will ultimately select the Person fo the Year, readers will be able to voice their opinions by voting until December 12, with a winner announced on December 14.
